Sumatra Blend

This Sumatra Bahtera offers a dynamic and unexpected cup at any roast level — it's layered with ripe, orange-hued fruit like cantaloupe, while still carrying the balsam, woody note you'd expect from a traditional wet-hulled process. It's fruity yet true to its wet-hulled roots at the same time, a combination that shouldn't quite work but does, making for a cup that's as fun to untangle as it is to drink. At light roasts, cantaloupe and fruit leather lead, with a balsam-like note keeping the cup clean and layered. Moving into medium, cantaloupe rounds into a rich creme brulee sweetness, with dried pineapple adding brightness alongside that same balsam thread running through. Into medium-dark, bittersweet chocolate and vanilla deepen the crème brûlée character, with molasses and an essence of sweet, fresh tobacco grounding the cup. At dark, molasses and dark chocolate take the lead, with balsam lingering into the finish as a reminder of the coffee's wet-hulled roots.
